Ordering
How do I place an order?
Browse meals on the Home or Search tab, tap a meal to see the details, then add it to your cart. When you're ready, open Cart and tap Checkout.
Can I order from more than one chef at a time?
No — each order goes to one chef. Every meal is cooked to order in someone's home, so orders can't be combined across kitchens. Adding a meal from a different chef replaces what's in your cart.
Can I cancel an order?
Yes, free of charge any time before your chef starts cooking — that covers both Pending and Accepted orders. Once the status changes to Cooking, the ingredients are already committed, so you'll need to submit a refund request from the order screen and our support team will review it.
Can I order ahead for a specific time?
Yes. On the Cart screen choose Scheduled, then pick a date and time. Your chef prepares the order for that slot.
Delivery & pickup
How does delivery work?
Chefs who offer delivery bring the order to you themselves — there's no third-party courier. You choose a saved address at checkout, and the chef sets their own delivery fee and radius. Not every chef delivers; pickup is always an option where offered.
How do I know where my order is?
Tap Track on any active order in the Orders tab. Your chef updates the status as they go — Accepted, Cooking, Ready, Out for Delivery — and you're notified at each step. There's no live GPS map; the status comes from the chef.
Payments & refunds
What will I be charged?
The price of the food, the chef's delivery fee if you're having it delivered, sales tax, and a small service fee that covers card processing. Every line is itemised at checkout before you pay, and the total you see is the total you're charged.
When is my card actually charged?
Not at checkout. Placing an order puts a temporary authorization hold on your card; the payment is only taken when your chef starts cooking. Cancel before then — or if the chef declines — and the hold is released without a charge. Your bank may still show it as pending for a few business days before it disappears.
How long does a refund take?
If payment was already taken, refunds typically reach your account in 5–10 business days depending on your bank. If the order was cancelled before cooking started, there's nothing to refund — the hold is simply released.
Which cards can I use, and is my information safe?
All major credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover — plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payments run through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified processor. Chefora never sees or stores your card number.
Food safety
Who is responsible for the food?
Food on Chefora is prepared and sold by independent chefs, not by Chefora. Each chef is responsible for food safety and for complying with their local cottage food laws and permit requirements. We verify identity and review submitted credentials — see Trust & Safety for exactly what that covers and what it doesn't.
I have a food allergy. What should I do?
Allergen information is listed on each meal's detail page. If your allergy is severe, message the chef in the order notes before ordering. Home kitchens are not allergen-controlled environments and cross-contamination is possible, so please use your judgement.
Fees & payouts
For chefs selling on Chefora.
What Chefora charges
Platform fee on your food subtotal
10%
Your delivery fee
Passed to you in full
Sales tax
Handled by Chefora
Card processing
Not deducted from you
On a $30 order of food with a $5 delivery fee, you keep $32.00 — $30 less the $3 platform fee, plus your $5 delivery in full. Sales tax and the buyer's service fee are collected separately and never come out of your payout.
When do I get paid?
Payouts go to your bank through Stripe Connect after an order completes. Standard Stripe transfer times apply — typically about two business days in the US.
Do I have to handle sales tax?
Not for orders placed through Chefora. As the marketplace, Chefora calculates sales tax, collects it from the buyer, and remits it. It never comes out of your payout. You're still responsible for your own income taxes and for any sales you make outside the platform.
What happens if a buyer is refunded?
Refund requests are reviewed by our support team, not applied automatically. If a refund is issued, the corresponding share of your payout and of our platform fee are both reversed — we don't keep our fee on an order you weren't paid for. Email support@chefora.app with the order ID if you want to discuss one.
Does a cancelled order cost me anything?
No. Because the buyer's card is only charged when you start cooking, an order cancelled before that costs neither of you anything — there's no payment to reverse and no processing fee lost.
Selling on Chefora
How do I become a chef?
Download the app and switch to chef mode from your profile, then complete onboarding — your bio, cuisines and location. A person reviews every application, usually within one to two business days.
What do I need before I can sell?
A bank account connected through Stripe for payouts — Stripe confirms your identity as part of that — and compliance with your local cottage food laws or permit requirements. Those rules vary by county — you're responsible for meeting the ones that apply to your kitchen, and Chefora isn't liable for permit violations.
Can I pause orders when I'm not cooking?
Yes. Turn off Accepting Orders in Edit Storefront and your kitchen is hidden from the marketplace until you turn it back on. You can also mark individual dishes unavailable without pausing everything, and set a minimum order amount so a trip is worth your time.
Do I have to offer delivery?
No. You can offer pickup only, delivery only, or both. If you deliver, you set the fee and how far you're willing to go, and you keep the whole fee.
